Tonight's 6:30 meeting will be a great way to begin to be involved in all the planning for the Fair. Please do come if you are able! There's lots to do to pull off this wonderful annual event - but when there are a lot of people helping out it helps a LOT!

Our magic countdown clock says that right now it's just 11 days, 7 hours and some minutes to the Fair. That means it's time to start seriously thinking about what you are going to bring to enter! The entries, after all, the basic reason for having a Fair! So.... If you have a garden, bring a sampling of your veggies or grains. If you've already harvested everything, perhaps you have some canning. Are you a baker? Bring cookies, bars, cakes - whatever strikes your fancy! Do you have a green thumb? Bring some of your plants! Like arranging bouquets? Bring them - both tame flowers and wild. Do you carve? Make jewelry? Sew? Knit? Crochet? Hardanger? Collect your beautiful creations and bring 'em along! Are you a photographer? Bring photos! It would be wonderful to FILL that little exhibit room to overflowing! Jody Luecken (376-4648) will have more information about exhibits, if you need to know the rules of what to display.
See you soon! Amazing how time races, isn't it?! Make sure that you circle the Fair dates NOW so that you don't forget the "magic" that happens on the 3rd weekend in August at the Fair. There will be lots happening for all ages. Come and enjoy!
It's that time of year again - for the 102nd time! Time to mark your calendars for the 102nd Annual Bear River Fair on the 3rd full weekend in August. This year, August 17 & 18 will be the weekend where people young, old, and everywhere in-between gather at the old Bear River School to just hang out and have fun. It's a great time to call a few friends together for a reunion - where you can find (or meet) other friends. There's softball, food, entertainment, games, shopping, an author's table, a scavenger hunt, more food, beverages, pie, people, a mini-bazaar, Bear River tee shirts and, of course, the exhibits.
Please consider entering and exhibit or ten on Saturday morning! That is, after all, what the Fair is all about.... It would be great to FILL the exhibit room with your hand made wares: baking, canning, veggies & fruit, flowers, sewing, painting, photography - Whatever your creative minds can come up with! Do you know of people who would be willing to share their musical or artistic talent at the fair? We are always looking for more folks willing to come and share their wares and voices....
101 years! Amazing, isn't it? That's a long time for an event to have taken place without even one break. The 2012 Bear River Fair is currently being planned, and we need YOU to be a part of it! Only 40 days 'til the fair! We're having another "Fair Meeting" tonight, to touch base with each other and see what all has yet to be done. We have a great committee, and I just know that this year's fair is going to be incredible. There are many fresh, wonderful activities happening for all ages, and yet all the good ol' traditions will still be there. Can't beat that! By the way.... if any of you have ideas, comments, photos or ANYTHING you would like to add to this website - or to the fair, please feel free to tell us - and we will see what we can do about it!
If you were to "Google" Bear River, Minnesota, one of the sites that will come up is that of the Minnesota Twins. Turns out that T.C. Bear - the Twins Mascot - was "born" in this little community! :D So.... I wrote to T.C., telling him about the 100th annual fair - and invited him to come back to his birthplace. I got a note back from him and sadly, T.C. had a prior commitment. The Twins will be playing the Yankees that weekend and T.C., of course, has to be working at the games. He did send his regrets and his greetings to everyone. The following is information about T.C. : HT: 6-4 WT: unBEARably heavy BATS: Both - mostly left-handed THROWS: Both, but most of the time -- it's left-handed. BORN: 1991 in Bear River, Minnesota HOME: White Bear Lake, Minnesota HOW OBTAINED: Signed as free agent, April 3, 2000 PRE-GAME MEAL: Twins Dogs, fresh fish, and the occasional pot o' honey Before joining the Twins, T.C. lead the Carnivore League in home runs, RBI's and batting average. He also holds the league records of most trout eaten in a single setting (12). Though highly sought by teams throughout the country, T.C. chose to join his favorite club, the Twins. 100 years ago, settlers throughout the Bear River Valley were proud of their crops. They had worked hard to carve out their homes and farms in the North Woods - and were succeeding in making their marks. Stories of this fertile valley spread throughout the Iron Range, and people from far and near came to the first "exposition" to see what was happening in this new community. Since then, not a year has passed without folks coming from all over to share the fun. Join us!
